When I was the age of ten I couldn’t remember when In high school from the age of eleven Wishing I was only seven Now I’m 173 It doesn’t mean a thing to me 173 is just a number My voice broke when I was twelve I was beginning to find myself Becoming active by the age of thirteen Playing guitar by the age of fourteen At fifteen I tried religion I was seeking some advice and wisdom By sixteen I was through with my school Went to college and I thought it was so cool Losing it at seventeen I think you know what I mean Eighteen going through the motions Nineteen with mixed emotions Signing on at twenty one Where’s all the magic gone? Living in a state of confusion Reality is just an illusion By the age of twenty four I was hoping for so much more I was a nervous wreck by twenty seven Wish I could back to being eleven
You check out the local talent at the bar And you’re wondering which line will get you far Where the drinks are two for one Everybody’s having fun And they call it happy hour at the sunrise See the man, who wears a superficial smile He forgets about his work life for a while Always ready with a joke While he drinks his scotch and coke He’ll be spending happy hour at the sunrise You could steal the floor when given half a chance Let the music be the reason that you dance To the rhythm of the drum While the DJ’s rolling on You’ll be spending happy hour at the sunrise
The room’s too bare Without you here A vacant stare at an empty chair There’s a pillow spare In the room upstairs Beyond the bedroom door Can’t sleep no more It’s insomnia Without you here The room’s too bare Without you here The room’s too bare Heading for a crash Like the economic mess Lacking stimulation The walls begin to crack With no way of turning back See me drown in isolation Behind a closing door Crouched upon the floor Can’t take much more
Sanctuary 03:04
In this sanctuary a land of mystery There’s Peter Pan staring out among the trees It’s where you long to be, It’s here you think out loud Now you need the time to try and work out things In moments of despair When life seems so unfair You’re lost and feeling scared Don’t cry, don’t cry You fall back down in sorrow This life is filled with pain and doubt The time will come when hope is found once more I’m sure you’ll find your piece of mind You need a plan to find a way out soon You react why should I care? It’s neither here nor there You’re trapped and going nowhere You don’t know why
The Busker 03:28
I play my song on the road to nowhere Is there nowhere I can go? I’m busking all round town At least there’s somewhere I can go Oh why, why, why am I going nowhere fast? They just sigh, sigh, sigh Ignoring me as they walk past Well I try, try, try but no one wants to know A penny is all I ask I’m trying to make a living Sometimes busking underground Tuning my guitar, so I can make a decent sound Trying to find a spot to play is harder than you think I found I took somebody’s pitch I came in for a lot of stick A policeman off the street tells me to stop what I do best He said I should find move on Or else he's going to seek arrest All I need is a drink of coffee Just so I can stay awake I’m strumming with my pick To earn some change for goodness sake I’ll pack my case and walk away And find some place to roam Give up my playing for today I might as well go home
